Facts About Duac Once Daily Gel

Duac Once Daily Gel is a primary treatment for mild to moderate acne. Acne is a common skin illness described by the presence of whiteheads or blackheads and inflamed pimples. Facts about Duac Once Daily Gel and Its Use for the Treatment of Acne

Duac Once Daily Gel has two active ingredients

  • Clindamycin

This is an antibiotic that is used in Duac’s formulation to prevent the growth of the bacteria.

  • Benzoyl Peroxide

This is a chemical that contains antibacterial properties and anti-inflammatory actions. Benzoyl Peroxide also has keratolytic properties by peeling away the dead skin.

Legal Classification and Age Restrictions

Duac is classified as a prescription-only medication. It needs to be prescribed by a doctor or another qualified prescriber. Duac Once Daily Gel is licensed for people aged 12 years and older.

Formulations, Tube Sizes, and Storage

Duac Once Daily Gel is available in two different formulations:

  • 1% Clindamycin & 5% Benzoyl Peroxide (1% and 5%)
  • 1% Clindamycin & 3% Benzoyl Peroxide (1% and 3%)

This is available in two tube sizes:

  • 30 g
  • 60 g

Duac Once Daily Gel can be kept at room temperature when used by patients although stored in the fridge before dispensing.

Duac Once Daily Gel Application

  • Duac is applied once daily usually in the evening.
  • Remove your makeup if you have them.
  • Before application, wash and dry your face. You can use a mild cleanser to wash your face. Wash your hand as well.
  • Apply the gel thinly using your fingertips. It should be applied to the whole affected area and not just spots.
  • Use your fingertip as a measurement for the amount of gel needed. Squeeze out the gel from the top of your finger to the first crease on your finger. Use two fingertips if the gel is applied to two different areas.
  • After applying the gel, wash your hands properly.

Important notes for application:

  • Avoid the use of sunbeds or prolonged exposure to the sun when using Duac Once Daily Gel.
  • Do not apply the gel on mucosal areas such as eyes, mouth, lips, or inside the nose.
  • Benzoyl Peroxide can bleach clothes or other fabric materials.
  • This gel should not be applied more than once a day. Excessive use may increase the risk of some side effects such as skin irritation. Using too much Benzoyl Peroxide Duac does not improve treatment.
  • Treatment with Duac Once Daily Gel should not exceed 12 weeks based on the clinical trials.

Common side effects are usually experienced by more than 1-10 patients using a particular medication. Some common side effects include:

  • Peeling of the skin
  • Reddening of the skin
  • Dryness of the skin
  • Itching of the skin
  • Skin burning

During the first few weeks of treatment, some common side effects may be more prominent and may ease off with time.
