The Best Antibiotics for Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that affects mostly teenagers. This condition can be managed with medication that can be purchased over-the-counter. Antibiotics are reserved for those with mild to moderate acne. This type of medicine is effective for acne.

Why Are Antibiotics Recommended For Acne?

Acne occurs when sebum and dead skin cells get trapped and form a plug in the hair follicle. It blocks the skin pores and developing blackheads or whiteheads. One of the reasons of acne is the development of bacteria in the blocked pores. Antibacterial medications stop the development of bacteria which prevents the development of acne.

Topical products that have antibiotics such as lotions, gels, and creams are used mainly for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. Antibiotics applied to the skin can be used on their own or along with other medications such as benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. A combined product is more effective in treating acne than products having just antibiotics. Combination products are also recommended in the management of acne to decrease antibacterial resistance which makes antibiotics less effective in treating infections.
